Studio BRUT is run by two artists who need accessibility ourselves. Access is not a feature we added, it is the reason the studio exists, and this website is built the same way.
What we aim for
This site is built and tested to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA. Every page is checked with automated accessibility tools and by hand, on phones and desktops, before and after changes.
What that means in practice
- Text size controls. The Aa button in the bottom left corner of every page makes all text larger, and remembers your choice. Browser zoom and your phone’s text size settings work too, up to 200 percent and beyond, without breaking the layout.
- Colour and contrast. All text meets or exceeds AA contrast standards, including links and navigation.
- Keyboard access. Everything can be reached and operated with a keyboard, with a clearly visible focus outline.
- Screen readers. Pages use proper headings, landmarks and image descriptions. We deliberately avoid third party accessibility overlay widgets, which are known to interfere with screen readers.
- Motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, animations and moving video stop.
- Forms. The join and visit forms have clear labels, error messages that explain what to fix, and an email alternative if forms are not your thing: hello@studiobrut.art.
- Plain language. We write like humans. No jargon walls.
Known limits
Some third party content, for example embedded ticketing or video players, is outside our full control. Where we embed it, we choose the most accessible option available and provide an alternative route, usually email.
Visiting the studio
Access at Arclite House is designed by people who need it, not bolted on for inspection day.
- Getting in. Step-free throughout, with accessible toilets on site and free parking right outside the door.
- The quiet room. At events there is always a calm, low-lit room with comfortable seating, kept away from the music. Take a break for as long as you need, come and go all evening, and nobody will hurry you back. The quiet room exists because we use it too.
- Sound. Music stays in the main space. If the volume is too much anywhere, tell us and we will turn it down.
- Early arrival. If settling in before a room fills up would help you, email us and come a little early.
- Assistance dogs. Always welcome.
- Anything else. Email hello@studiobrut.art before you visit and we will make it work.
Found a problem?
Tell us and we will fix it, usually fast. Email hello@studiobrut.art or speak to us at the studio. If something on this site keeps you from taking part, that is a bug in the studio itself, and we want to know.
