Privacy notice

This notice explains what Studio BRUT does with personal information on studiobrut.art. It is written in plain English on purpose. Last updated: 3 July 2026.

Who we are

Studio BRUT is an outsider art studio at Arclite House, Swindon, run in partnership with Swindon Culture Collective. For the purposes of UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), Studio BRUT is the data controller for the personal information described in this notice. You can reach us at hello@studiobrut.art.

What we collect, and why

The artist directory

When you sign up to the artist directory we collect your name, a short bio, your area, links you choose to share, an optional public email address, an optional photo, and a private contact detail so we can reach you.

What is displayed publicly: your name, photo, bio, area, and any links or public email you gave us. What is held privately and never published: your private contact details. We use them only to talk to you about your listing or the studio.

Directory sign-ups are collected through a Google Form. Google processes that form data on our behalf and under its own privacy policy. We download and hold submissions securely, and we do not use the data for anything beyond running the directory and contacting you.

Email

If you email us, we keep the correspondence for as long as we need it to deal with your enquiry and for our records. We do not add you to any marketing list.

Server logs

Our server keeps standard access logs for security. These record IP addresses, the pages requested and the browser used, and are rotated and deleted automatically. We look at them only to keep the site secure and working.

Lawful basis

We publish your directory listing because you consented to it when you signed up. Nothing goes in the directory without that consent, and nothing is published automatically; a person checks every listing first. We handle enquiry emails and server logs on the basis of legitimate interests: answering the people who write to us, and keeping the site secure.

Cookies and tracking

This site sets no third-party trackers. No analytics scripts, no advertising pixels, no external fonts or embeds. WordPress sets a small number of strictly necessary cookies for people who log in to run the site; visitors browsing the site are not tracked. Links to external services, such as the Google Form used for directory sign-ups, take you to sites with their own cookie and privacy practices.

Who we share data with

Nobody, except the service providers who make the site work: our UK-based hosting provider, and Google when you fill in a sign-up form. We never sell personal information, and we never share it for marketing.

How long we keep things

Directory listings stay published until you ask us to remove them. Private contact details are kept only while your listing is live. Enquiry emails are reviewed yearly and deleted when no longer needed. Server logs are deleted automatically on rotation, typically within a few weeks.

Removal

You can ask to be removed from the directory at any time. Email us and we will delete your listing within 7 days, along with the private contact details we hold for you.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, to take it elsewhere (data portability), and to withdraw consent at any time. To use any of these rights, email hello@studiobrut.art. We will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Children

The artist directory is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18; if we learn that we have, we will delete it.

Changes to this notice

If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Significant changes affecting directory members will be emailed to them directly.
